According to Rauschenberg
According to Rauschenberg
a pair of socks is no less suitable
to make a painting than
wood, nails, turpentine, oil and fabric.
But surely, a pair of socks is less suitable
for poetry. After all, poets can work with
a Grecian urn or poppies in Flanders field.
Socks I know.
smelly teenage boy socks,
sweat soaked training socks,
dress socks the color of our daughter's eyes,
wool hiking socks traversing mountain passes,
nylon socks protecting from Antarctic bitter chill,
socks without mates,
socks that spark and cling
No, socks may not be the stuff of
love and beauty, they may not
speak eloquently of death, but
socks are one layer in my
fully lived life, so I'm lining up with
Rauschenberg on this.
